Submission Guidelines

Submissions are currently closed.

Puffin Circus is an online poetry journal intent on providing an outlet for new and established poets & artists. We are looking for poetry that is slightly off-center or odd. We are open to most topics, but be aware that some are overdone (e.g. love, depression, etc.) so if you are going to send those types of poems they have to sound fresh and original. We appreciate various styles of poetry, as long as they are done well. (Rhyming is just as welcome as free verse. Haiku just as welcome as sonnets.see poetry section.) We are also interested in Art that fits our journals Poetry.

(Note: We will not publish profanity or explicit poetry, if it cannot be done in good taste and without foul language we are not interested.)

We will be publishing every month (of course that depends on you). We may on occassion decide to run a theme issue. If your work doesn’t fit that theme we will consider it for the next unthemed issue. (See our Themes page.)

Poetry: Please send up to 5 poems. Poetry can be up to 50 lines in length. Untitled poetry will not be accepted (unless it is Haiku). While we do like all kinds of poetry, we prefer not to receive prose poetry. Your work can be submitted by e-mail to puffincircus@gmail.com. Please provide a brief introduction and a brief personal bio in the body of your e-mail, send the poetry as a microsoft word document in an attachment. We try our best to respond quickly. We most often will respond in 2-3 weeks or sooner.

Art: Send up to 5 works of Art. Art submissions can be of any media: drawings, paintings, photographs, etc. Art can be sent to puffincircus@gmail.com as a pdf or jpeg attachment. Please be sure to send us a brief bio in the body of your e-mail. Accepted art will be used as needed to match the writing, though it will most likely be used quickly since we do not receive as much as we need.

Rights: By sending your work to us you attest that you are 18 years of age or older, that the work you send is your own, and that it has not been published previously. With your submission you agree to transfer to us first on-line rights and print anthology rights. All other rights remain with you.

Payment: This operation is small and organized mainly for the purpose of sharing our favorite poetry and art (yours) with the world. With that in mind, unfortunately, we cannot offer any compensation at this time.

Perks: We do believe in recognizing our poets by nominating them for the pushcart prize, Best of the Web, and Best of the Net. It is a long shot for such a small operation, but we know how important recognition is.

Note: Simultaneous Submissions are fine, just be sure to inform us if your work has been picked up elsewhere. Also if your work is accepted we may use it, in whole or in part, in e-mails, on our facebook page, or on any other outlet for the sole purpose of plugging the next installment to get more people to view your work (This is a good thing.) You will be credited where ever your work is posted.
